Dual Manifestation (Ebb and Flow), 2016. Vandyke Brown collage, 17"x 8".

CONTEXT

In the grinding days of the summer, I wanted to make a collage that expresses the tumbling motions of time in a new and expanding way, one that shows how creativity and inspiration from science can create and manifest.

SUBJECT

There is a layered order and chaos that opens the image from the center. The whirling and spiral forms of the fossilized shells both reveal and hide the distant and elusive textures of space and earth.

In the center, a galaxy glimmers, its arms stretch between two enveloping fractals of stenciled droplets. The dark and shadowy curves of the shells hold within its borders an exciting manifestation of patterns and textures. They seem to compete and shudder together, yet harmonize like the natural patterns of our surroundings.

STYLE

Within its overall composition, is a assorted pattern of latticed droplets, the units of my illustrations and stenciling. Their shape signifies the common fragments that compose all that is around us, whether it be energy, matter or spirit. It is a symbol of water, but also of absorption and unity. While each droplet is an individual and unique shape, together they can present an ever-expanding and complex connection.
