Al2SiO5- Black Kyanite: Aliminosilicate
Triclinic crystalline silica with traces of Quartz
Ashy black and columnar, Kyanite resembles something of a metallic kryptonite on a small scale. The grain of mineral is structured in a fanning direction, appealing sheen reflecting off the fibrous branches.
More commonly found as a cyan crystal and also known as Cyanite, the colors of Kyanite vary from shades of blue to bright orange. The aluminum gives the mineral a significant and weighty mass, and although it is solid and firm from one direction, can be fragile and brittle from another angle.
Splintered Structure
Accompanied by quartz and mica, Kyanite can be found in granite and provides chatoyancy and reflective texture with granite stones. Kyanite as a raw material has some uses in modern utility due to its heat resistant properties, including use in ceramics and some thing such as spark plugs. It is said to have repellant qualities, and does not retain energy but diffuses it.
It's fractured texture is inviting at a macro world, and the chaotic and yet organized formation is a quality of accidental beauty that is delightful to find in nature.
