SANDY SPACES
Destruction and desolation of war is contrasted with leisure and sandy coastlines of the human condition. Places are often defined by their use...whether it be access for invasion, or amusement. The beach is a transition place, one where people can meet a horizon of bliss and abstract beauty, or the irony of picturesque loss and pain.
What is the likelihood that a grain of sand has seen both epitomes of life and death on the shore of these beaches. Like the grains of sand, people are the mere witnesses of motion in an every changing transfer of energy that is life. Societies and civilization have long been drawn to the beach, there is something absolving about the tides, coming in to wipe clear the impressions of the day. Whether showing tension or relief, action or reservation, the marks in the beach are all eventually washed away.

COASTLINE COMPRESSION
This collage contrasts the events that occur by the shared waters of the earth, and how these locations can condition our emotions. When we witness the sublime or obscene on a beach, it reveals the change that inevitably occurs over time and the change's impression on us. The beach leaves impressions on us as much as we do if it, although it is hard to say which have lasting effects.
Places often define us and how we must live our lives, and places of transition like the coastline can be of particular impact to the psyche. The beach can remind one of good memories or bad, and are ultimately reflections of human nature and society.
